More than just candy, See’s is all about cherished traditions and lasting memories across generations and holidays. And for Valentine’s Day, we thought we’d collect some heartfelt stories from our candy-loving customers! Read on to explore incredible stories that span decades.

Valentine’s Day Gifts from the 1940s to Now

Debbie from California, a See’s fan of 58 years, shared how her parents showed love to each other… through candy!

“My parents met in 1946 in San Francisco, and they were married in May of 1947. On their first Valentine's together my father gave my mother a heart-shaped See's Candies box. That box was in our kitchen every Valentine's Day that I can remember.”

And See’s seemed to stay in the family! Debbie’s parents were married for 72 years, and she kept their Valentine’s Day gift boxes for the sweet memories.

“When I got married in 2001, I started giving my husband a heart-shaped box of See’s Candies every year too,” she said.

Passing Down the Valentine’s Traditions

Pennye from California, who has loved See’s for over 50 years, recounted all the ways See’s has played a part in her Valentine’s celebrations.

“For Valentine’s Day, my Dad would give my Mom a special heart box and would buy us kids a small Valentine’s Day gift box of chocolates. I continued the tradition with my son and now grandkids, and Lollypops are at the top of their list. My sweet husband always treats me to See's… I got him hooked 12 years ago!”

Sarah from California also had a similar tradition, who has shared chocolates within her family for years.

“I remember my grandmother sneaking me a chocolate from her Valentine’s box every year. Now I do the same for my kids,” Sarah said. “See’s has been part of our family’s love story for decades.”

Nancy, who has been going to See’s for over 50 years, has vivid memories of her father gifting her mother “the most beautiful silky red heart-shaped box.”

“Not only was my mother — who loved chocolate — overjoyed with the beautiful and delicious gift, but so were we four girls!” she said. “We knew my mother would be sharing her Valentine gift with us.”

Even after her father passed away in 2001, Nancy and her sisters continued the tradition.

“Until this day, we still give my Mom her favorite Valentine’s chocolates — See’s Candies,” she said.

A Very Special Valentine’s Day Gift

See’s isn’t just for the little moments. Since 1921, we’ve seen our fair share of grand Valentine’s Day gestures! Rebecca from California — a See’s fan for over 70 years — shared an incredible story about her own Valentine’s Day.

“My husband gifted me a very large heart-shaped box of See’s about five years ago. When I opened the box, there was a lovely necklace draped across the top layer of chocolates,” Rebecca said. “It was such a surprise to receive such a beautiful gift combined with my favorite chocolates.”

What’s even better is that everyone at the See’s shop was amazed by the thoughtful gift, as well as our customer service.

“They created a customized box of chocolate in the heart box together, then placed the necklace inside. It created such a stir that all of the customers gathered around wanting to see what was happening,” she said. “My husband’s romantic gesture brought joy to the See’s employee and lots of oohing and aahing from all the customers. They no doubt shared the story when they got home that day.”

Love is in the air… and it smells a lot like Valentine’s chocolate! For Daniel from New York, See’s was the sweetest way he could show his care.

“When my partner and I were apart for six months, I mailed her a heart-shaped box of See’s chocolates every month,” Daniel said. “It became our little ritual and a reminder that love can travel any distance.”
